Learn what the Bible says about defeating fear and discover powerful prayers you can use to trade your worries and burdens for God’s peace.
We live in a time where news of evil, corruption, and disasters fills our screens each passing day. With so many uncertainties facing our world, it is very easy and rational, to slip into fear and live in ceaseless apprehension.
But as a Christian, God’s word which is the standard for your life says something entirely different. What does the Bible say about fear? What does it tell you directly?
In the Scriptures, believers are constantly reminded to be anxious for nothing and “fear not”. In fact, these words are repeated 365 times in the Bible. So in each of the 365 days in a year, you are admonished not to be afraid, because God is present.
You are not expected to never feel fear, but having courage and trusting God despite it, is when true faith is fully defined. So here’s a collection of prayers for fear to help you find victory in your life everyday.
Prayer For Battling Fear
Even though Your Word tells me to be courageous, I confess that a lot of times, fear clouds my heart and I can’t see past it. I ask today that You give me the courage to face them and the strength to overcome them.
When my worries threaten to drown me, keep my head above the water, eyes fixed on You. Help me to choose to trust in You, taking life one day at a time. In my moments of panic, help me not to forget that I am Yours, and You love me.
Remind me of Your word which says that I have not been given a spirit of fear and anxiety, but of peace, joy, and a sound mind. Above all, give me a thankful heart, so that amid all my battles I can sing of Your faithfulness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Prayer For Anxiety
Thank You for the blessing of life and all that comes with it.
There’s nothing hidden from Your sight and You know how anxious I get. I know I can’t avoid the troubles of this world, Your word tells me that I will have them. But You have overcome the world on my behalf.
So I ask that You help me understand that I am more than a conqueror so that I don’t have to be anxious over anything that happens in my life.
This moment, I also ask for peace, Your peace that goes beyond all my circumstances. Speak calm to the troubled waters of my mind. Drive away whatever cloud of fear and anxiety hangs over my head.
I know that You love me and deeply desire that I walk in victory over all my troubling thoughts and fretfulness. Thank You for You hear me when I pray. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer To Stop Worrying
Indeed, I forget that You are with me sometimes and I worry a lot. I worry about both the things that I can’t control and the ones I can.
Forgive me for this Lord. Teach me that I truly can’t change anything or add a single day to my life by worrying.
I ask that Your spirit reminds me each time I forget what the Bible has said. Help me to build my faith in You and Your promises to me.
May I cast my cares on You and not fall over trying to fix them on my own. Teach me not to worry about tomorrow and what it may hold. But see each day and whatever comes with it as a blessing and fix my gaze on You.
Teach my heart to trust completely in Your love, for perfect love casts out all fear.
I lay all my burdens down at Your feet today; financial, relational, physical, social, spiritual, and even emotional.
Thank You for understanding my weaknesses and offering me your strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Stress
Thank You for your everlasting presence in my life. Thank You for Your willingness to bear my burdens. Thank You because You hold my life and everything that concerns me together.
Lord, I confess that I am deeply stressed and I let this stress affect everything else that I do. I ask for the grace to truly leave my cares at Your feet instead of letting them win over me. Fill my mind with the knowledge and memories of Your goodness anytime stress threatens to overwhelm me.
Help me take things slowly and trust You for strength daily to have victory over all my fears and anxieties.
I look forward to the new heaven and new earth when there will be no more pain or stress. Till then, when I can’t find hope for tomorrow, remind me of all the times You have rescued me so that my trust in You can be renewed. Teach me to live for and love You.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Prayer For Fear of the Unknown
I come before you today because I am afraid. I must confess that all this is unfamiliar and I find myself more often than not worrying about what the future holds for me.
I don’t know what to expect or what circumstances or problems may come up and that scares me, Lord.
I ask Father, that you help me truly understand that I do not walk alone. Your word promises that you’ll be with me even till the end of the age. Help me to hold fast to this promise in my moments of uncertainty.
Remove the fear of what may or may not come from my heart and fill it with Your peace. Help me to walk in awareness of Your presence around me, causing all things to work together for my good.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer During An Anxiety Attack
Please help me. My heart is racing from fear and I can’t stop it.
Please wrap me in Your presence at this very moment. Speak calm to my racing heart and stormy mind. Help me to take deep breaths.
Fill my heart with Your peace right now. I make this prayer for fear to leave me.
I belong to You and no one else. No matter what the voices in my head try to say, I am Your beloved and the apple of Your eyes.
You will never leave me or forsake me. No matter how things look, remind me that You’re consistently working to bring Your plan for my life into being. Let this knowledge flood my heart with peace right now. Thank You, Jesus.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Faith Instead of Nervousness
Please forgive me for all the times when I give in to worry and fear instead of trusting You and Your plans for me. Help me to trade my fears for faith, my anxiety for peace, and my weaknesses for Your strength.
Teach me to keep my thoughts on You, not on whatever rages around me. Like the mustard seed grows into a mighty tree, help me to grow my faith, Lord. I believe, but please help my unbelief.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
